Comedian Gad Elmaleh Uses Legal Maneuver to Remove Plagiarism Accusation Videos from Twitter

It is by invoking neighboring rights that Gad Elmaleh has managed to have the videos accusing him of plagiarism removed from Twitter. These are the work of a person whose pseudonym is Copycomic.

The information is revealed by Le Parisien, who cites Copycomic: "Gad Elmaleh, following my CopyComic videos about him, and through a law firm, has just taken action against the CopyComic account".

It is at least necessary to explain what neighboring rights are. These are rights that are in fact neighboring the copyright that protect people who are not authors and who therefore cannot claim the privileges of copyright. In a way, Gad is admitting a bit indirectly that he is not the author of the texts but that he has rights over his performances. The same sentiment is expressed by Le Parisien: "The comedian’s lawyers, the Parisian firm Wan Avocats, have used the legal subtlety of ’neighboring rights to copyright’ to have the social network remove all the videos that showed the artist’s regular borrowings from sketches or gags of other American or even French comedians". One can therefore wonder whether Gad had the approval of the authors in question...

This procedure, Ben Copycomic almost laughs at: "Gad Elmaleh uses his copyrights (and his neighboring rights) to censor the videos that present his possible plagiarisms! Surprising isn’t it? Gad Elmaleh is therefore very keen on respecting his copyright, less so on that of others". It would also be the first time that a comedian has attacked Copycomic’s videos, sometimes nicknamed "the plagiarism hunter". The latter says in this regard: "The others probably didn’t have that audacity... Probably afraid to sink further".

In any case, Twitter has removed the said videos. But this does not concern or not yet the videos on Youtube.
