Comedian Gad Elmaleh Opens Up About Alcohol Addiction in New Interview

Moroccan-Canadian comedian Gad Elmaleh returns in a long interview with the Journal du Dimanche to his addiction to alcohol.
In the midst of promoting his new show D’ailleurs, Gad Elmaleh gave an interview to Journal du Dimanche on May 29, 2022, in which he made confidences about his addiction to alcohol. "On stage, I describe myself as ’an asymptomatic alcoholic’. Some might say ’worldly’. [...] The alcoholic is not always a guy rolling on the ground and bleeding from the nose. It’s also a classy guy who chains champagne glasses while laughing," he explained.
Over the years, the comedian has developed an addiction to drinking. "Me, I drank on every occasion. I was happy, I drank; I was unhappy, I drank; I gave a good show, I drank; a bad show, I drank. It was too much..." he confided. Today, he claims to have stopped drinking. Determined to lead a sober and spiritual life, Gad Elmaleh admits to having definitively quit smoking. "The hypothesis of God [makes me] joyful," he also confided.
"I’m purifying at all levels: in my professional, personal life..." he said, adding with a touch of humor: "The next step is sexual abstinence. No, I’m joking!"
