Clashes Erupt in Bordeaux Between Rival Western Sahara Protesters

While Moroccans residing in Bordeaux were demonstrating their support for the Moroccanness of the Sahara on Saturday on the Place de la Victoire, other demonstrators in favor of the "Saharawis" arrived on the scene. The two rallies degenerated into clashes.
It was 1 p.m. this Saturday, December 12, when about thirty members of the Moroccan community in Bordeaux gathered on the Place de la Victoire in support of Morocco’s territorial claims over the Western Sahara, reports Sud Ouest.
A few minutes later, about thirty other demonstrators supporting the "Saharawis" invaded the premises. Peaceful at first, these two rallies quickly degenerated with some altercations and provocations. The police had to intervene in large numbers to calm the spirits.
These demonstrations come the day after the American recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Western Sahara.
