Civil Guard Recovers Body of Moroccan Man off Melilla Coast After Failed Rescue Attempt

The agents of the maritime section of the Civil Guard recovered on Wednesday the lifeless body of a man of Maghreb appearance around 35 years old in the waters of Melilla.
The victim would have called for help from the Aguadú area, located north of Melilla, where he was carrying out fishing activities, says a spokesman for the government delegation to Europa Press.
The agents went to the area, but failed to locate the distressed man after more than 5 hours of searching. They then had to return to Puerto Noray due to unfavorable maritime conditions due to the storm.
They then left the area a few hours later and continued the search, which allowed them to locate and recover at a depth of 11 meters, the young man of around 35 years of Maghreb origin. He did not have any identity documents on him.
The agents transferred the body to Puerto Noray, which was made available to the coroner and the elements of the judicial police unit for the purposes of the autopsy and the investigation.
The spokesman for the government delegation in Melilla assured that the Spanish authorities have contacted the Moroccan authorities in order to identify the victim’s body.
