Chinese Auto Battery Giants Invest $910 Million in Morocco’s Tanger Tech City

Chinese giants in the automotive battery industry are set to implement two major industrial projects in the Mohammed VI Tanger Tech City. Agreements have been signed to this effect at the Bank Of Africa headquarters in Casablanca.
The HAILIANG group, a global industrial leader, particularly in the production of automotive copper parts such as pipes, bars and pipe fittings, based in Zhuji, Zhejiang Province, China, and the third largest Chinese anode producer, the SHINZOOM company, based in Changshan, Hunan Province, want to invest $910 million in Morocco. On Tuesday, agreements for the establishment of two major industrial projects in the Mohammed VI Tanger Tech City were signed at the Bank Of Africa headquarters in Casablanca. In a press release, the Tanger Tech Development Company (SATT) specifies that these agreements were initialed by its President Othman Benjelloun, in the presence of the President of the Tanger Med Group, Fouad Brini, and the President of the Council of the Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima Region, Omar Moro, as well as the President of HAILIANG, Cao Jiangu, the President of SHINZOOM, Pi Tao, and their respective top management.
"These agreements represent a major turning point in the Moroccan automotive ecosystem, with the welcome in the Kingdom of a 1st industrial copper operator, through the HAILIANG Group, and a 1st anode operator, the SHINZOOM company," notes the SATT. According to the SATT, "these new ambitious projects confirm the positioning of the Mohammed VI Tanger Tech City as a pole of excellence and opportunities for international industrial companies operating in competitive and globalized sectors, in line with the visionary vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI."
The HAILIANG project in Morocco covers an area of 30 hectares in the Mohammed VI Tanger Tech City. The HAILIANG group plans to invest $450 million as early as 2024 and create 1,800 jobs. The SHINZOOM project covers an area of 20 hectares. Its investment amounts to $460 million. This project will generate 2,000 jobs.
