China Hikes Container Shipping Rates to Morocco by 166% Amid COVID Measures

Freight companies transporting goods to China are concerned about a sharp increase in container maritime freight rates to Morocco. This situation would be due to the strengthening by the Chinese authorities of measures to control the Covid-19 pandemic.
"Chinese companies operating in the field of container maritime freight have increased prices by nearly 166%, an increase that they have started to apply during the current month and which we became aware of this evening," announced the president of the National Transport Federation affiliated with the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises, Adil Dahouki.
For the top official of the union of Moroccan transport companies, this situation will also impact the container transport activity from Moroccan ports.
Mr. Dahouki also noted that the majority of the activity of Moroccan companies operating in the field of freight transport from ports is essentially based on the transport of goods from China. He also fears that this situation will negatively impact small and medium-sized enterprises in the sector.
