China Delivers Critical Ventilators to Morocco Amid Global Shortage

China is lending a hand to Morocco. A Boeing 787 from RAM containing medical equipment as part of the fight against the spread of the coronavirus has landed on the tarmac of Mohamed V International Airport in Casablanca.

Among the medical equipment donated to Morocco are ventilators, "which have become scarce in the world, as they are used in intensive care units for patients with coronavirus". At the international level, "large groups are rushing to produce ventilators, taking into account the widespread prevalence of the coronavirus, which causes shortness of breath in infected people". The need for ventilators is therefore great in all the countries of the world, attacked by the virus.

According to China’s official television channel, a first plane had already landed in Morocco on Monday, with on board 15,000 pairs of medical gloves, 20,000 "N95 masks", 2,000 protective suits, as well as other medical supplies that are increasingly necessary in these times of crisis. These equipment were delivered to Rabat and Souss, two regions that have forged strong friendly relations with the Chinese province of Guizhou. Among the equipment, there are also 5,000 coronavirus detectors, donated by Chinese companies based in Morocco and by the Chinese community residing in Casablanca.

The Chinese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Luo Zhaohui, announced on Thursday, during a press conference, that "China has committed to providing emergency assistance to more than 80 countries, as well as to international and regional organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the African Union (AU)". He added that his country has "donated $20 million to the WHO to facilitate international cooperation in this area".

In addition, the Chinese authorities have transmitted, according to the Deputy Director of the National Health Commission of China, "the latest diagnostic, treatment, prevention and control plan, as well as other technical documents". Documents that have been immediately shared with more than 180 countries and more than 10 international and regional organizations.
