Chelsea's New Signing Ziyech Ineligible for Champions League Restart

Transferred from Ajax Amsterdam to Chelsea, Moroccan international Hakim Ziyech will not be able to play in the Champions League. The new UEFA rules do not allow him to do so.

After more than 3 months of suspension due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Champions League will be relaunched on August 23 in Lisbon, at the end of an unprecedented final tournament. It will bring together eight teams in the Portuguese capital starting from August 12.

Except that the Moroccan player Hakim Ziyech, expected at Chelsea on July 1, will not be able to participate with his club which is still in the running.

According to the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), "It will not be possible for clubs to register newly transferred players on the Champions League registration list".

In other words, the governing body of football in Europe does not authorize recently transferred players to participate in the final phase of this competition.
