Algerian Singer Cheb Khaled Attends Moroccan King’s Throne Celebration

Algerian singer Cheb Khaled was present in M’diq on Tuesday evening to celebrate the accession to the throne of King Mohammed VI. The artist, who also holds Moroccan nationality, participated in a reception organized in honor of the sovereign.

Cheb Khaled was also supposed to attend the allegiance ceremony in Tétouan on Wednesday, presided over by King Mohammed VI. The artist was seen posing for photos with guests and citizens present at the ceremony.

For several years now, many Algerians have been angry with Cheb Khaled, a native of Oran married to a Moroccan, because of his rapprochement with the Moroccan leaders, particularly King Mohammed VI. He also holds Moroccan nationality.

The king of raï music and global icon for more than 40 years, would also have been the target of a boycott campaign in his country of origin, Algeria. Is this a punishment for the singer known for his pro-Morocco positions, of which he acquired nationality many years ago?
