Chaos at Sète Port: New Morocco Ferry Line Sparks Passenger Unrest and Security Measures

To contain the clashes observed around the port of Sète, since a third line has been created towards Morocco, the Prefect of Hérault has decided to restrict access to the port of Sète for passengers without tickets. Far too many malfunctions have been noted by the Hérault Prefecture in the organization of the first calls of this third maritime line to Morocco.

Non-compliance with stopover dates and schedules, shortcomings in informing passengers about embarkation dates and schedules that could generate public order disturbances, failure to transmit the required passenger information to the authorities within the required time. There are many reasons that justify the mess observed on this third line served by the ships Victoria 1 and Romantika. Faced with the complaints and anger of the passengers, the prefect of Hérault opted for the restriction of access to the port in order to maintain order.

According to Le Singulier, several passengers who had booked tickets on the company’s website have seen their reservation cancelled. "The tickets are cancelled and resold at a higher price to other people," says an angry passenger encountered in the port. "We are asking for an investigation to be opened because nothing is being respected, it is the law of the strongest and the richest," he adds.

To try to contain the outbursts between the passengers, the police carried out an intervention supported by two CRS trucks on Tuesday, July 13 in the early evening. The law enforcement officers also intervened to protect the company’s employees who were targeted by the angry passengers.

Faced with the dismay of the passengers who find themselves without a ticket and without a solution, the prefect of Hérault has taken new measures. "Due to the difficulties encountered by the maritime transport company, passengers holding transport tickets on the ships Victoria 1 and Romantika are invited to contact the company without delay to ensure the possibility of boarding," says the Prefect of Hérault before adding that "in the absence of a scheduled stopover, the passengers concerned will not be able to access the Port of Sète."

The stopovers of the GNV and BALEARIA companies at the port of Sète are not affected by these difficulties.
