Ceuta President Demands Health Measures for Morocco Border Reopening

The border separating Ceuta from Morocco remains closed until further notice, but the president of the city, Juan Vivas, specified during the Conference of Autonomous Presidents held on Friday that health measures must be required for the opening of borders.
The President of Ceuta, Juan Vivas, stressed that the mere thought of opening the border is a source of concern, since in the case of Ceuta, the health situation is much less worrying.
He also took the opportunity of this meeting to ask the State for more resources. "After declaring the state of emergency, we had to take care of the maintenance and accommodation of the Moroccans blocked in Ceuta... I have asked the Spanish government to provide financial support to these people," he said during his press conference.
Vivas recalled that many funds have been allocated to this operation. In total, "95% have been allocated to the homeless," he added, confident that this cost will ultimately be borne by the State. The city president also welcomed the receipt of 25 million euros from the Covid funds.
Ceuta took advantage of its presence at the Conference of Presidents to present a roadmap for which it expects the help of the Spanish government. Thus, the City is working to lay the foundations for a stable economic model that does not depend on Moroccan decisions.
To achieve this goal, Vivas informed the government that a greater presence of the State was necessary in Ceuta. "The government and European authorities must recognize that we are the southern border with all that implies: migratory pressure, particularly Moroccan adults and minors," Vivas recalled.
