Ceuta Merchants Struggle as Moroccan Tourist Influx Slows at Border

Business is no longer as thriving for the merchants of Ceuta in recent weeks due to the difficulties Moroccan tourists are experiencing in crossing the border, even with their visa.
After a series of protests without real progress, the employers’ association, wholesalers and retailers have launched a cry of distress to the local authorities so that they facilitate the arrival of Moroccan tourists in Ceuta.
Indeed, it greatly benefits the local economy. But the restrictive or prohibitive measures taken by the authorities have recently slowed down the activities of the merchants.
Similarly, this situation has led to a decrease in the number of cross-border merchants due to the closure of the Tarajal border post.
Based on these findings, the professionals, gathered within the Ceuta Chamber of Commerce and the Confederation of Entrepreneurs, are sounding the alarm on the defection of Moroccan customers.
