Ceuta Leader Calls for Stricter Border Controls with Morocco to Manage Migration

The President of Ceuta, Juan Vivas, wants the border with Morocco to be strengthened in order to allow "effective control" of the migratory flow in the city.
Vivas is calling for an "effective and adequate border" to control people entering Ceuta. The president of the autonomous city believes that this involves the abolition of the Schengen visa requirement. A measure which, according to him, can prove to be very "effective" in achieving the ultimate goal of securing borders and controlling migratory flows.

For its part, the Spanish government leans more towards respecting the good neighborliness treaty with Morocco. An opinion that Vivas did not share. "It’s impossible, it would be the tree that hides the forest," he said during a plenary session two years ago. Today, the President of Ceuta insists on the need to have a unanimous view with Madrid and Melilla on this issue.
