Ceuta Hires Interpreters to Facilitate Return of Moroccan Minors

The Governing Council of the autonomous city of Ceuta announced on Friday that it will hire eight interpreters fluent in Darija for a period of four months in order to facilitate exchanges during individual interviews with minors with a view to their return to Morocco. A budget of around 100,000 euros will be devoted to this mission.
The Foreigners’ Office of Ceuta had its staff reinforced on Friday with the recruitment of twelve new temporary civil servants in categories A2, C1 and C2. This capacity building aims to "accelerate the completion of the formalities and procedures" prior to the return of some 700 Moroccan minors who still reside in the city since the migration crisis in May, said the government delegation in Ceuta in a press release.

The temporary workers have already been assigned, although the delegation has not yet requested reports on the families of each child from Morocco and the child protection service of the regional administration has planned to take at least "a month and a half" to collect the individual opinions of each minor, in accordance with the legislation in force. All this procedure must be completed before initiating the actual repatriation of the minors, which is expected to be completed within six months, reports Ok Diario.

In addition, the Presidency Advisor, Mabel Deu, announced on Friday that she has already reached an agreement with the Murcia Executive to transfer the seven minors placed under the guardianship of the city and who were assigned to it in May with the mediation of the Ministry of Social Rights as part of the operation to distribute 200 minors among all the communities, with the exception of the Canary Islands and Melilla. The operation will continue in the coming days with the transfer of eleven minors to Asturias, twenty to Madrid, ten to Castile and León and eight to the Basque Country.
