Ceuta Expresses Caution Over Annual Moroccan Transit Operation Amid COVID-19 Concerns

The government of Ceuta has explained that it has no "particular interest" in the Marhaba Operation crossing the city this year due to the risks that the passage of thousands of Moroccans could entail.
In a statement to the press on Sunday, the spokesman for the Ceuta government, Alberto Gaitán, referred to the remarks made the day before in Algeciras by the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, who reiterated that Spain is "ready" for this year’s Marhaba operation, which "will not be like the previous ones", as soon as Morocco decides to open its borders.
Alberto Gaitán indicated that the subject has not been the subject of any communication from the government with Ceuta. For him, what matters is the health security of Ceuta. "We have no particular interest in the Marhaba operation passing through Ceuta this year, given the current circumstances," he specified.
