Ceuta Consumers Urge Easing of Moroccan Food Import Limits Ahead of Ramadan

The Association of Halal Consumers of Ceuta (Acohace) has sent a letter to the government delegate in Ceuta, Rafael García Rodríguez, to request the removal of restrictions and the destruction of food products from Morocco at the Tarajal border.
As the start of the holy month of Ramadan approaches, the Association is asking for "greater flexibility regarding the control of quantities of fruits and vegetables from Morocco". It believes that the 10 kg established is insufficient given the large number of dishes prepared by Muslims during the fasting month, and the soaring prices in the city.
"Muslim consumers’ spending doubles during Ramadan, a situation that can be corrected if the restrictions at the Tarajal border are relaxed and if the destruction of goods at customs stops, which will also benefit the entire population," adds the association, specifying that only products intended for personal use are allowed to cross the border.
