Ceuta Braces for 600,000 Moroccan Expats in Annual Summer Transit Operation

According to Ceuta’s forecasts, more than 600,000 Moroccans from Europe will transit through the autonomous city as part of the Marhaba Operation which will take place between June 15 and September 15.
The Local Coordination Committee for the Operation, bringing together all stakeholders, held a meeting on Tuesday to prepare for the massive arrival of MREs who will choose to use the Algeciras-Ceuta route to reach Morocco this summer. The meeting aimed to study all the arrangements to be made to facilitate the transit of MREs in complete safety, and to avoid the monstrous traffic jams that create inconveniences for the inhabitants of the autonomous city, reports EFE.
Last year, 683,586 MREs and 161,272 vehicles passed through Ceuta during the Marhaba Operation, which recorded 3,056 ship rotations. This year, the Committee has planned the installation of a permanent and continuous health service in the port area and near the Moroccan border, as well as new waiting areas and various sales outlets to meet the basic needs of travelers.
