Ceuta Border Braces for Surge of Moroccan Expats Returning Home

The Organizing Committee of the Marhaba Operation in Spain (CECOP) warns of a new risk of traffic jam of Moroccans living abroad at the Ceuta border.
During a meeting held on Thursday, attended by the authorities of Ceuta, representatives of the Port Authority, the State Security Forces and Corps, and the maritime captaincy, the provincial coordinator of the Marhaba Operation indicated that the waiting area could be overwhelmed again in the coming days by Moroccans living abroad and residents of Ceuta.
Faced with this situation, a series of measures have been proposed to control the flow of travelers at the Ceuta-Morocco border, between Thursday and Sunday. Among other things, it was agreed to set up a special system to reduce waiting time as much as possible and thus streamline the passage of Moroccans living abroad, which should allow the management of up to 1,500 vehicles.
Similarly, the maritime captaincy of Ceuta will ask the shipping companies not to activate extraordinary rotations during this period of high influx, in accordance with the recommendations made by the State security forces and agencies. The aim is to maintain absolute normality in the regular rotations between Algeciras and Ceuta.
The Ceuta government delegation also recommends that residents of the city who intend to go to Morocco prefer night schedules in order to reduce traffic jams and waiting times. In the same vein, civil protection invites those who wish to celebrate Eid al-Adha in Morocco to organize their trip taking into account the significant flow of Moroccans living abroad.
