Ceuta Aims to Rival Gibraltar as Online Gambling Hub Post-Brexit

Faced with the drastic drop in cross-border trade revenues, the authorities of Ceuta want to take advantage of Brexit to supplant the Strait of Gibraltar in the exploitation of online gambling. To succeed in this challenge, they are offering facilities to certain specialized companies from the Rock.
Ceuta does not intend to be deprived of the limelight on this opportunity, which brings in a lot of money to Gibraltar. The authorities of the enclave had already anticipated in 2019 by orienting the country’s economic policy towards the exploitation of these online games, recalls the Spanish press. They have accelerated their steps by reducing the tax rate to 5% on these recreational activities throughout Spanish territory.
As for Ceuta and Melilla, they have revised the tax rate downwards (0.5%). As a result, several companies have landed in the border town. They also offer employment opportunities on site.
The objective of this measure is to seek new resources for this Mediterranean locality in order to ensure its autonomy. According to the same source, this initiative is provoking the ire of the authorities of the cities in southern Spain, those forming the perimeter around Gibraltar.
