Catalonia Police Increase Patrols on AP-7 Highway Amid Rising Theft Concerns

The Mossos d’Esquadra have decided to step up checks on the AP-7 motorway, heavily used by Moroccans in Europe in transit to Morocco during the summer, in order to combat the growing insecurity on this road.
Faced with the insecurity on the AP-7 crossing Catalonia, also called the Mediterranean motorway, the Mossos d’Esquadra recommend that Spanish travelers and MREs do not stop in remote or isolated places. Ill-intentioned individuals operate on these roads, stripping users of their belongings. Their modus operandi is to simulate a breakdown and ask for help from passers-by. As soon as they stop, they deprive them of their belongings.
This week, the Spanish security forces launched a large-scale control operation on the AP-7. The agents carried out a thorough search of luxury cars, vans and trucks, and subjected their drivers to alcohol and drug tests. The objective is to dismantle the criminal networks specialized in arms trafficking and copper theft. In total, about fifty vehicles were checked on this motorway connecting northern Spain to France and widely used by gangs for their trafficking.
