Casablanca Zoo Prepares for Reopening as First Animals Arrive After Years of Renovation

Long-awaited, the first animals have finally been delivered to the Aïn Sebaâ zoological park in Casablanca, one of the oldest in Morocco. Closed for renovations for years, the famous zoo should reopen in the coming months.

This first delivery of animals is part of the ongoing preparations for the reopening of this famous park, following renovation work. The animals were transported in compliance with international standards for animal safety. This first animal convoy is the first of a series. Other animal species will be brought to the park in the coming weeks.

"The first animal deliveries have started to arrive at the Aïn Sebaâ zoological park in Casablanca, in a preparatory stage for the reopening of this environmental and recreational space awaited by the population," confirmed Karim Glaibi, first vice-president of the Aïn Sebaâ district, in charge of works and environmental affairs.

In a statement to the press, he affirmed that "this stage comes after years of work and rehabilitation, and it is expected that the park will host a diversity of animal species within natural spaces reproducing their original habitat, which will contribute to reviving this public establishment and making it a preferred destination for visitors and families."

Closed for several years for rehabilitation work that will have cost millions of dirhams, the Aïn Sebaâ zoological park should open its doors in the coming months, if and only if the organizational and technical procedures related to the installation of animals and the development of spaces dedicated to them are completed.
