Casablanca Undergoes Major Makeover for 2030 FIFA World Cup

Construction or rehabilitation of stadiums, modernization of road and rail infrastructure, urban redevelopment. The city of Casablanca, the economic capital of Morocco, is undergoing a metamorphosis to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup, organized by the kingdom, jointly with Spain and Portugal.
Casablanca is preparing for the 2030 World Cup. The city authorities are pulling out all the stops to successfully organize this global sporting event. Several construction sites have been opened here and there to make the economic capital of the kingdom more attractive and allow the many expected visitors to have a pleasant stay. "Several projects are underway. Some are supervised by FIFA, others are led by the municipality in consultation with the Royal Moroccan Football Federation. The work includes the rehabilitation of sports complexes, such as the Mohammed V Complex or the Larbi Zaouli Complex," said Mayor Nabila Rmili, a guest on 2M.
The city is mobilizing to comply with FIFA’s requirements, regarding the redevelopment of roads, major arteries and the improvement of public lighting. A new specification has been developed for the management of public lighting, signage and waste collection, informs the mayor of the city. "We have designed this specification in a participatory approach, including all the stakeholders concerned. It aims in particular to solve major problems such as the Médiouna landfill, heavily criticized for its environmental impact. A sorting and recovery plant for waste will soon be built on a 300-hectare site. This project, whose operating duration is estimated at 30 years, will eliminate the negative effects of the current management method," she said.
Also, the main arteries of Casablanca, in particular the Zerktouni, La Mecque, Taddart boulevards, as well as the Bachkou roundabout, have been completely renovated. "These construction sites are neither punctual nor improvised. They are part of a global and concerted vision, developed in partnership with the various stakeholders. Our objective is to transform the city in a sustainable way and to equip it to meet the challenges of tomorrow," assured Nabila Rmili. For the mayor of the economic capital of the kingdom, the construction sites are progressing normally because she has succeeded in meeting the challenge of coordinating these projects. "The lack of coordination caused significant disruptions, especially during development work. Today, a unified vision makes it possible to structure the operations and avoid duplicates, for a smoother and more efficient management."
The mayor of Casablanca also unveiled her priorities for the next three years. The mayor of the city wants to put an end to the illegal occupation of the public domain. In this sense, the control of the sidewalks, anarchically occupied by some businesses and cafes, will be strengthened, with the contribution of the administrative police, she assured, announcing severe sanctions against offenders. Rmili also wants to implement the project of harmonization of facades, shops and buildings, with particular attention paid to the standardization of awnings and shutters in order to give more aesthetics to the main arteries of the city.
