Casablanca Tramway Ridership Plummets 90% Amid Coronavirus Lockdown

The confinement imposed on the population to curb the spread of coronavirus is having a negative impact on the activities of the Casablanca tramway. Ridership is plummeting by 90%.
The 2 tramway lines (13,400 for T1 and 6,700 for T2) welcomed around 20,000 passengers on Wednesday, April 1st; which represents a historic drop of 90%, reports L’Économiste. Before the confinement, these two lines received an average of 230,000 passengers per day. In clear, this is the direct consequence of the confinement and the fear of coronavirus contamination.
Furthermore, the dissemination of a recent video showing a crowded tramway (following an incident that disrupted the network), in violation of the safety instructions, has worried more than one. Subsequently, attendance plummeted drastically. The trams are now deserted. The reassurance messages from Casa-Transport will have been of no use.
