Casablanca Tramway Fares to Increase by One Dirham Amid Network Expansion

Starting next June, it will cost one dirham more to take the Casablanca tramway. An unpopular but necessary measure, according to the authorities, to fill the budget deficit of the network.
The current ticket price does not correspond to the actual cost of the service. The city is currently providing significant financial support to public transport, subsidizing between 30% and 40% of the ticket price, sold at 6 dirhams. A price far from the real 10 dirhams, according to the estimates revealed by Nabila Rmili.
This situation is becoming even more untenable with the expansion of the network. The arrival of the new T3 and T4 lines will generate an increase in the number of passengers and, consequently, operating costs.
The annual subsidy granted by the economic capital weighs on the city’s finances. This support is becoming increasingly difficult to assume, it is assured.
