Casablanca under high surveillance

It is a double-trigger system that has been put in place in the economic capital. The authorities not only have to manage the traditional New Year’s Eve night, but also the influx of foreign supporters who have come to attend the CAN competitions.

The instructions are clear: visibility and prevention. Elements from all security units have been massively deployed around the Mohammed V Complex in the Maârif district, the epicenter of sporting activity, reports Hespress.

The grid also extends to tourist areas, large hotel establishments, as well as the vicinity of shopping centers and major avenues. The objective is to reassure citizens and the thousands of foreign visitors present for the tournament.

Beyond the securing of festive venues, the police have launched an offensive against delinquency. Strict instructions have been given to the motorcycle brigades to intensify patrols in the neighborhoods and "black spots" of the city.

In the crosshairs: suspects using motorcycles to commit snatching thefts, a well-known local scourge. The security services are also tracking down drug and contraband alcohol sellers, particularly the traditional eau-de-vie (mahya), often a source of public order disturbances.

This impressive system will not be lifted on January 1st. The authorities have confirmed that this increased police presence will be maintained throughout the duration of the Africa Cup, in order to ensure the smooth running of the competition.
