Casablanca-Settat Region Approves $11.5 Billion Development Plan Amid Pandemic Challenges

The local authorities of Casablanca-Settat have decided, on Monday, to review their development program. The financial and legal impacts of the health crisis in this region, the most contaminated in Morocco, are at the origin of this decision.

During this meeting, the regional councilors discussed the consequences of this exceptional health crisis and its financial and legal implications for the region, according to a statement from the Council.

Unanimously, the councilors validated a Regional Development Program that provides for 160 development projects by 2021. It was designed through a participatory approach involving the various stakeholders in the region for an estimated amount of 115 billion dirhams, carried by public and private actors.

According to the same document, this amount will be invested in five major strategic areas: "Environment", "Integrated Rural Environment", "Socio-cultural Attractiveness and Quality of Life", "Transport" and "Enterprise, Innovation and Employment".

Faced with the resurgence of new cases of contamination, the councilors have called on the population to respect the barrier gestures in order to prevent the risks. They also paid tribute to the medical staff and the executives invested in security to ensure compliance with the preventive measures in the region.
