Casablanca to Receive 700 New High-Tech Buses, Partially Assembled in Morocco

Irizar Maroc will provide a total of 200 buses, assembled on Scania chassis at Alsa Al Baida, while Mercedes will deliver the other 500 buses.
According to a statement from the company, the ’Irizar i3le’ buses on ’Scania K320 UB4X2 LB Euro6’ chassis will be customized according to the operational needs of the metropolis and its passengers. The same press release specifies that they will incorporate the latest technology in terms of safety, comfort and accessibility.
According to the manufacturer, the 200 buses, 12 meters long, will have a capacity of 33 seats and will be equipped with ramps for wheelchairs and specific spaces for people with reduced mobility. It also assures that their commissioning will be gradual during this year 2020. It also confirms that the buses will be manufactured at Irizar Maroc, in its Shkirat plant.
Three months ago, the contract for the purchase of 700 new buses by the SDL Casa Transports had been cancelled and entrusted to Alsa to make changes to the specifications and encourage local production.
The new terms of the contract stipulate that half of the buses (350) will be financed by the Spanish company, while the Al Baida Inter-Municipal Cooperation Establishment will finance the other half for a total investment of 1.33 billion dirhams for all the buses.
