Casablanca to Raise Public Transit Fares and Increase Penalties for Ticket Violations

The city of Casablanca plans to raise the fares for transportation in the city, both for the tramway lines and for the buses.
The Casablanca municipality plans to increase the standard tramway ticket price by one dirham, taking it from 8 to 9 dirhams per trip. The price of the two-trip ticket will go from 14 to 16 dirhams. A 0.5 to two dirham increase is proposed for other transport tickets.
In order to limit the sale of black market tickets, the company in charge of managing the tramway plans to increase the fines for passengers who purchase tickets outside the authorized sales points. Similarly, passengers who have taken the bad habit of spitting in the cars or putting their feet on the seats will be fined 300 dirhams to be paid on the spot, compared to 50 dirhams currently.
If the payment is made 24 hours later, the fine increases to 500 dirhams. To this amount is added a penalty of 50 dirhams per day if the offender has not paid the fine after seven days. Passengers who adopt other reprehensible behaviors, such as misuse of sound devices or abusive use of the alarm system, obstruction of the door closing process, are subject to the same penalties.
As for the buses, the authorities of the economic capital plan to increase the fine from 35 to 50 dirhams for ticket purchases outside the system. Note that this issue of raising fares and fines will be discussed at a meeting of the Budget, Finance and Programming Commission of the municipality, scheduled for this Tuesday.
