Casablanca to Raise Municipal Taxes on Bars, Vacant Lots, and Public Transport

In Casablanca, some municipal taxes will see an increase in the coming days. These are mainly the tax on drinking establishments, the tax on undeveloped urban land and the tax on public passenger transport.
Bad news for Casablancans. The authorities are busy raising certain taxes. The City Council will look into the matter at the next session to amend the Municipal Tax Ordinance, which came into force in February 2018, reports La Vie eco.
"Indeed, the Council will proceed to amend this Municipal Tax Ordinance, based on the memoranda that will be presented by the various political sensibilities represented in the Council. These proposals will be debated and submitted to the City Council for approval," said Samira Razani, Deputy Mayor of Casablanca, in charge of taxation.
The respective taxes on drinking establishments, undeveloped urban land and public passenger transport are affected by this increase.
They represent 35% of the commune’s tax revenue. Nevertheless, Casablancans can be reassured. The professional tax, the housing tax, the tax on municipal services and the others, which account for 65% of the commune’s tax revenue, will not see any increase.
