Casablanca Police Bust Fake Gold Manufacturing Ring, Seize Counterfeit Jewelry

Elements of the police in the Lahraouyine district of Casablanca dismantled seven factories. During this operation, a counterfeiter was arrested, and fake jewelry, stocks of aluminum and chemicals used to manufacture fake gold were seized.
The raid by the police elements in these factories follows a complaint filed with the king’s prosecutor by the leaders of a human rights association, reports Assabah. In their complaint, they denounced the presence of depots, located in the Lahraouyine region, manufacturing counterfeit gold by mixing copper, earth and aluminum, with chemicals.
Subsequently, the head of the Lahraouyine police district opened an investigation. Then the police elements raided these clandestine factories. The harvest proved fruitful: quantities of counterfeit gold, chemicals as well as a large quantity of aluminum were seized. A counterfeiter was also arrested.
The owners of these factories produced large quantities of fake gold that they sold on the market, with the complicity of jewelers who resold them at exorbitant prices.
