New Psychoactive Substances Pose Growing Threat to Moroccan Youth, Authorities Warn

Health and security authorities have issued an alert on new psychoactive substances, which are uncontrollable, undetectable and sometimes untreatable products.
These products represent "the challenge of tomorrow," according to the same authorities. According to the International Narcotics Control Board (INCB), traditional drugs will no longer be the challenge of tomorrow.
The INCB, while concerned about the proliferation of "new psychoactive substances" (NPS), noted that these "extremely dangerous products are manufactured in clandestine laboratories from chemical precursors, and even chemical pre-precursors.
According to Professor Jalal Taoufik, a member of the INCB, the manufacture of these drugs does not require great chemical sophistication. According to him, any chemist can manufacture them. "They are very easy to access and are inexpensive to manufacture. But their economic added value is significant, like the financial gains that result from them," adds the expert.
More than 700 new substances, of which 70 constitute the core, are the most marketed in the form of tablets," these products are "very light and cross borders without any problem," it is specified. As for NPS, they are available through vendors and online commercial platforms. They proliferate in particular on the "Darknet", a superimposed network known for its illegal applications.
