Casablanca: major crackdown operation against cafes
The Casablanca authorities are conducting a control campaign targeting cafes in the city. Agents are issuing fines for shisha use and the unauthorized broadcasting of matches, reminding owners of the obligation to respect copyright legislation under penalty of sanctions.
Field operations have begun in several neighborhoods under the supervision of the district chiefs. Law enforcement has raided establishments offering shisha to seize dozens of hookahs and issue reports against offenders.
However, this action is raising questions: observers are surprised by what they consider a selective targeting, with some well-known places having been spared while others are being sanctioned. These sources believe that the effectiveness of the fight first requires a ban on the sale of equipment and maassel.
The other aspect of this campaign concerns intellectual property. The authorities are enforcing copyright law by verifying the legality of sports event broadcasts. Managers must now prove that they have the necessary authorizations and have paid royalties to the Moroccan Copyright Office (BMDA). The administration is urging owners to regularize their situation for the broadcast of audiovisual and musical content in order to avoid the recording of new offenses.
