Casablanca Locks Down Again as COVID-19 Cases Surge

Faced with the resurgence of epidemiological outbreaks in the prefecture of Casablanca, the government has decided to re-confine the city. A series of measures have been taken to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
These measures, which take effect this Monday, September 7, 2020, consist of closing all exits from the Casablanca prefecture and subjecting travel to and from its territory to an exceptional authorization issued by the local authorities, as well as the closure of all educational establishments (primary, middle, high schools and universities), with the adoption of distance learning, the government specifies in a statement.
Similarly, neighborhood markets will be closed at 3 p.m., cafes and businesses at 8 p.m. and restaurants at 9 p.m., in addition to the ban on night travel throughout the prefecture between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., except for health and security personnel, employees in vital and sensitive sectors and those in freight transport, provided they can justify their night work, the same source continues.
These measures will remain in effect for the next 14 days and the epidemiological situation in the economic capital will be subject to a thorough and continuous evaluation to make the appropriate decisions, the statement adds.
The government calls on citizens to strictly respect the directives of the public authorities and the preventive measures enacted, particularly the mandatory wearing of protective masks, hygiene rules and physical distancing in public spaces, concludes the same source.
