Casablanca: Land scandal in Aïn Sebaâ

The discovery of two different property certificates for the plot in question has triggered a crisis within the municipality, reports Assabah. It all started with an anonymous message circulated on WhatsApp during a meeting of the urban planning commission, accusing the second deputy mayor of having made this modification to the property title of the plot. The appearance of this message led to the departure of the elected official from the session and triggered a series of resignations within the municipal administration. Youssef Lahssinia, president of the Aïn Sebaâ district, says he is ready to resign and take the matter to court.

But beyond the political crisis triggered by this unprecedented discovery, it is the land management of the city that is called into question. The presence of two contradictory property certificates for this 13,000 m² plot raises questions about the functioning of the land registry services and the transparency of the procedures. The disputed land, officially belonging to the municipality and intended for a green space in Aïn Sebaâ for more than two decades, is also the property of a real estate company. Is it an administrative error or an illegal transfer of ownership?
