Casablanca Grand Taxi Drivers Protest New Bus System, Disrupt Routes

The commissioning of the new buses in Casablanca and its suburbs is not to the liking of the grand taxi drivers who operate there. They have decided to hinder the route of these buses throughout the metropolis.
Having benefited for many years from the leniency of the city authorities and the policy of rent, the grand taxi drivers are not ready to accept the competition. This week, they went very far by becoming on the road, "monsters" feared who can hinder the development undertaken to improve the transport conditions of citizens in the metropolis.
This behavior has alerted the city authorities and even the Wilaya of the region, as well as the gendarmerie services who have mobilized, in order to preserve the right of citizens to transport and the safety of the drivers of the new buses, reports Assabah, stressing that this incident should draw the attention of the authorities to the caution to be observed in the implementation of strategic projects as part of the modernization and improvement of public transport services, including the launch of two, scheduled for soon.
According to citizens, the behavior of grand taxi drivers is a rebellion against the authority of the security services and a contempt for the right of Casablancans to access decent transport services. For the city authorities, this behavior is a danger to be condemned. Even if the commissioning of these new buses, as well as the execution of other projects for the development of Casablanca, may arouse resistance, their strategy is not the right one, condemned the elected officials.
