Casablanca Dog Meat Gang Appeals 10-Year Sentence in Shocking Food Safety Case

While they were sentenced to 10 years in prison (the maximum sentence), the trial of the members of the gang who were marketing dog meat has just begun on appeal.
At the end of 2018, the gendarmerie arrested 7 people, in flagrante delicto, as they were preparing minced dog and sick cow meat. This meat was sold to street vendors in Casablanca and also in Mohammedia. Before the courts, the prosecution requested a 10-year prison sentence. And they were sentenced to ten years in prison, the maximum sentence.
This appeal trial taking place in Casablanca has just been postponed for the third time, in order to allow the defense to refine its arguments. The accused are also requesting provisional release, but they will only get an answer at the next hearing.
For the defense, the media coverage of this case was taken into account in the first instance in the severity of the sentence. The families of the accused have therefore appealed to human rights organizations to assist them in obtaining a trial and lighter sentences.
It should be recalled that the members of the gang are accused of forming a criminal gang, selling unfit meat for consumption and distributing toxic substances.
