Casablanca Cracks Down on 20,000 Unlicensed Cafes Occupying Public Space

The illegal cafes scattered all over Casablanca are working to get themselves in order. The demolition of several cafe terraces has finally made the most recalcitrant owners give in.
The campaign to recover the public domain carried out in the economic capital is starting to yield its first results, wrote Barlamane.com. The electronic platform "Rokhas" is recording many requests for regulation of the illegal cafes located in the city. More than 80 authorization requests were filed in a single day.
In Casablanca, the cafes in question are estimated at 20,000 and occupy public space without paying fees. Even worse, some owners operate without authorization. Only about 3,000 of them operate legally.
To date, more than 17,000 reports have been drawn up by 150 administrative police officers, who will be reinforced by 100 additional officers in January for public domain, urban planning, and hygiene checks, the same source said.
