Casablanca Court Hands Down Prison Sentences for Bus Vandalism and Fare Evasion

The justice system has sentenced four young people to various prison terms for attacking buses of the Spanish company Alsa, newly put into service in the city of Casablanca.
These young people were sentenced to prison terms for various acts of vandalism on loaded buses or for refusing to pay the 5 dirham transportation fee.
The young man who injured a driver with one of the stones thrown at the bus was sentenced to three years in prison, the harshest sentence. Two other young people were sentenced to two years in prison, and a fourth to eight months. Sentences deemed "exemplary" by Internet users.
The vandalism of buses on urban lines is a recurring problem in some Moroccan cities. With the arrival of a modern bus fleet from the Spanish company Alsa, and the judicial sanctions against the perpetrators, these acts of incivility have decreased.
The Alsa company, with a fleet of around 1,500 buses, provides urban transportation in the cities of Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakech, Tangier and Agadir.
