Casablanca Authorities Shut Down Bars in COVID-19 Compliance Crackdown

Several establishments on the Casablanca corniche have had their drink licenses revoked by the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) which was carrying out routine checks in these times of health crisis due to Covid-19.

These are, reports Médias24, about ten establishments that have also received various administrative sanctions. In total, around forty establishments on the coast have undergone these checks carried out by the DGSN in Casablanca, as part of the control of the standards of the legislation relating to drink outlets, but also, of compliance with the provisions of the law on the state of health emergency aimed at curbing the spread of the pandemic of the new coronavirus.

In Morocco, these checks have intensified in the wake of the royal speech of August 20, dedicated to the epidemiological situation and the need to respect the health prevention measures. Casablanca being the most affected city, with about a third of active coronavirus cases, checks there are more intense.

It should be remembered that during the searches carried out in a hotel establishment on the coast on August 31, the DGSN had discovered falsified tax stamps making it appear that the alcoholic beverages had been cleared, contraband alcohol bottles and several other irregularities liable to penalties. Yassine Zahraoui, the son of the owner is currently on the run, while the manager of the hotel establishment has been taken into custody, the same source points out.
