Casablanca Authorities Clear Illegal Vendors from Popular Aïn Diab Beach

No illegal and anarchic occupation will be tolerated on the Aïn Diab beach. The prefecture services have launched a muscular operation to free this corniche, to the delight of the people of Casablanca.

The large-scale operation carried out by the prefecture services, on the instructions of the governor, resulted in the seizure of several dozen umbrellas, chairs, and tables, displayed on the beach sand for commercial purposes, reports Al Ahdath Al Maghribia, which confides that the administrative agents have been instructed to ensure that all citizens of the city can enjoy the public domain.

According to the newspaper, the Aïn Diab beach sees a large influx during the summer and merchants, without authorization, invade the place from June to the end of August, installing hundreds of umbrellas, chairs and tables to rent to vacationers at prices ranging from 30 to 50 DH. They do not hesitate to sleep under the stars to watch their installations.

The operation is welcomed by the people of Casablanca who consider that this campaign follows the grumbling of activists on social networks. On the other hand, the seasonal workers express their discontent following this decision which coincides with the resumption of activities after more than a year and a half of unemployment. According to the newspaper, last year until mid-August, the seasonal workers were working normally despite the pandemic.

In any case, access to the beach has been freed, allowing vacationers to enjoy the sea without being forced to rent equipment at high prices, comments the daily, which also confides that a commission will monitor throughout the season the liberation of the public domain from any illegal occupation. The fast food professionals are also targeted by the authorities who blame them for not respecting the sanitary safety conditions in the exercise of their activities.
