Casablanca Authorities Attempt to Relocate Sub-Saharan Migrants Amid Tensions

The authorities of the Casablanca police prefecture have decided to evacuate the Sub-Saharans from the Ouled Ziane camp after the fire and the violent clashes of recent days. The migrants refuse to leave the premises and demand their right to housing and free movement.
Sub-Saharan migrants are unwanted in the Ouled Ziane bus station camp. To avoid the frequent brawls, the police carry out daily evacuation operations with the support of part of the population. According to police sources, these measures aim to prevent any riots, just like the giant fire that occurred two weeks ago.
Confined to empty buildings, schools, gardens and cemeteries, the migrants have negotiated their temporary installation in the premises of the La Villette district slaughterhouses, pending the favorable opinion of the city authorities.
