Casablanca and Rabat Regions Generate Over 80% of Morocco’s Tax Revenue, Report Shows

Casablanca and Rabat concentrate 81.7% of tax revenues, according to the Court of Auditors in its report on the execution of the 2019 state budget. In terms of corporate income tax (IS), out of a tax population of 493,617 taxpayers recorded, only 358,617 are active. The active population does not pay its annual obligations, however.
According to the same report, the number of taxpayers who filed a return during the last fiscal year is 241,776 and therefore 32% of the returns are beneficiary. VAT has not yet reached the expected rate, however. This tax has a population of 833,181 taxable persons against an active population that does not exceed 281,793 taxpayers. Thus, the returns filed by these taxpayers are debit only in 42% of cases. A situation resulting from a significant concentration of revenues from these two taxes (IS and VAT).
It should be noted that tax revenues remain concentrated in only a few regions. Beyond the Casablanca-Settat and Rabat-Salé-Kénitra regions which provide 81.7%, the rate of this concentration can reach 86.4%, if we add the revenues from the Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima region, reports panorapost.com.
