Casablanca Airport Strike Ends: Baggage Handlers Reach Deal After 8-Week Standoff

The strike by baggage handlers at Mohammed V Airport has just ended, following a social pact signed on Tuesday, July 2, between the various stakeholders, on the initiative of the Ministry of the Interior. The baggage handlers finally prevailed, after eight weeks of strike and negotiations.
The "Marhaba" 2019 operation experienced disruptions due to the strike led by the baggage handlers of the GPI company at Mohammed V Airport. Royal Air Maroc (RAM) had received several complaints from travelers regarding the handling of luggage. Even the British Ambassador to Morocco did not fail to report, on social networks, the bad experience lived at the airport.
Present for the signing of the social pact were the Governor of the Province of Nouaceur, the Regional Directorate of Employment, RAM Handling, the Casablanca Airport Directorate, the National Airports Office (ONDA), the unions of the Moroccan Union of Workers (UMT) and the GPI company.
According to the daily Al Massae, the agreement provides for a 15% increase in staff salaries, the improvement of working conditions for workers, the establishment of arbitration mechanisms and the implementation of social benefits for ground personnel.
