Casablanca’s 700 New Buses Delayed Until February Due to COVID-19 Crisis

The introduction of 700 new buses in Casablanca scheduled for January 2021 has been postponed due to the health crisis related to the coronavirus.
Casablanca residents still have to wait. The commissioning of the new buses scheduled for early January 2021 will finally take place around mid-February, a reliable source told Médias 24. According to this source, this delay is due to the Covid-19 crisis, which has had a negative impact on all sectors.
"The 700 buses, of which 200 were produced by Irizar and assembled on Scania chassis, and 500 others by Auto Nejma (Mercedes Benz Morocco), are all ready. They have all been produced," the same source said, adding that only the final preparations remain.
Pending their commissioning, the 330 used buses imported from various European countries continue to provide the transitional service in the metropolis. Once the new buses are deployed, the authorities will decide on their withdrawal from circulation.
The new buses will serve the 18 municipalities managed by Alsa: Casablanca, Méchouar, Mohammedia, Ain Harrouda, Beni Yakhlef, Nouaceur, Bouskoura, Ouled Saleh, Dar Bouazza, Mediouna, Lahraouyine and Tit Mellil, Ech-challalate, Sidi Moussa Majdoub, Sidi Moussa Ben Ali, Al Majjatia Ouled Taleb, Mediouna and Sidi Hajjaj Oued Hasser.
