CAS Rejects Algerian Appeal in CAF Cup Semi-Final Dispute with Moroccan Club

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) did not grant the request of the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) and the Union Sportive de la Médina d’Alger (USMA) to cancel the decision of the appeal committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) which confirmed the defeat of the Algerian club against Renaissance Sportive de Berkane for the first and second leg matches of the semi-final of the CAF Cup.
According to an authorized source from the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, the CAS rejected the appeal of the Algerian Federation and USMA requesting the cancellation of the decision of the CAF appeal committee dated April 30, 2024, which endorsed the defeat of the Algerian club against Renaissance Berkane in the first and second leg matches of the semi-final of the Confederation Cup.
USMA refused to play the first leg at home, after confiscating the official jersey of the Moroccan club containing a complete map of Morocco with the Sahara. For the return match, the Algerian club made the trip to Berkane, but also boycotted the match, recalls SNRT News.
Declared the winner of the semi-final, Renaissance Berkane will play the first leg of the final of the tournament against the Egyptian club Zamalek on Sunday, May 12. The return match is scheduled for a week, on May 19.
