Car Insurance Reform: Deductibles to Be Based on Vehicle’s New Value

Car insurance contracts will soon undergo an evolution. This is a reform aimed at contributing to the technical recovery of the automotive branch.
In a note, the insurance companies informed their respective networks about this adjustment, reports Challenge. Thanks to this reform, the calculation of the deductible will no longer take into account the value of the damage but rather the new value of the insured vehicle.
The structural deterioration of the claims experience of the ancillary guarantees would be at the origin of this decision of the insurance companies, we learn. In other words, the minimum deductible for the "Damage to the vehicle" guarantee is now set at 3% of the new value, with a minimum of 2,500 DH.
According to the insurance companies, this reform should be applied as of September 1st. If September 1st is the date retained for new subscriptions, the renewals of single and convention contracts for "Tourism" and "Utility vehicles under 3.5 tons" use are, for their part, scheduled for October 1st.
This new measure also targets changes in coverage during the insurance period occurring after September 1, 2020 as well as renewable contracts by tacit renewal from the renewal of the October 1, 2020 term. As for the vehicle fleet and uses other than Tourism, they are exempt from this reform.
