Canned Sardines: Morocco Floods the World with 15,000 Tons and Crushes the Competition
Morocco has established itself as the undisputed global leader in canned sardines. With more than 15,000 tons exported each year, the Kingdom is transforming its maritime resources into a massive industrial weapon, generating thousands of jobs where others are limited to fresh fish.
International reports confirm Morocco’s supremacy. The country annually ships more than 15,000 tons of products to Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. This performance is based on an integrated maritime and industrial system that captures the largest share of the global market.
Cities like Agadir, Safi, and Laâyoune now function as major production centers. The network of processing plants operates at full capacity to meet strict international standards. This intense activity creates hundreds of thousands of direct and indirect jobs, offering crucial employment opportunities for women in coastal areas where the industry sometimes represents more than half of the local economy.
Rabat has made the strategic choice of profitability. Instead of selling fresh or frozen fish like its competitors, Morocco favors canning to access distant markets. This approach is accompanied by the modernization of the fleet and rigorous traceability. The quality certifications obtained strengthen the trust of partners and give weight to the Kingdom during trade negotiations.
