Canada Warns Its Citizens Visiting Morocco

In its latest update dated December 15, 2025, the Canadian federal government is specifically addressing supporters planning to travel to Morocco for the competition scheduled from December 21 to January 18. While Ottawa notes that the matches will take place in major cities like Casablanca, Rabat or Marrakech, it warns that the excitement of the event is conducive to a resurgence of crime.

Despite the strengthening of the police force, tourists are urged to be wary of pickpocketing, fraud and especially the resale of unofficial tickets. The Canadian authorities also warn that post-match celebrations could lead to disturbances and recommend avoiding demonstrations while anticipating significant traffic disruptions.

Beyond the sporting event, Canada maintains a high level of vigilance due to the terrorist threat, recalling the tragedy of Imlil in 2018. Nationals are encouraged to be cautious in public places, hotels and tourist sites, which are potential targets for attacks. The risk of kidnapping in the isolated regions of the south and near the borders with Algeria and Mauritania is also highlighted.

Geographically, the risk map remains strict. Ottawa advises against any travel within a 20 km radius of the Algerian border and near the defense wall in the Sahara, due to the presence of minefields and an unpredictable security situation. Finally, the guide reminds travelers of the importance of respecting local laws: drones are systematically confiscated at customs, sexual relations outside of marriage are illegal, and any criticism of the monarchy is to be avoided.
