CAN 2025: A Tunisian TV channel apologizes after a false report on Morocco
Admitted fault is half forgiven? The Tunisian television channel "El Hiwar Ettounsi" officially apologized to the Moroccan public on Wednesday evening. The issue: the broadcast of a report reporting imaginary malfunctions during the Tunisia-Uganda match in Rabat, described as a "serious professional error" by the channel’s management.
The fire was extinguished live during the special program "Layali Al-CAN". Host Adel Bouhelal took care to set the record straight unambiguously, disavowing his on-site correspondent, Hamza Tiyachi. The latter had mentioned imaginary organizational problems at the Rabat Olympic Stadium, in total contradiction with reality. To support this mea culpa, the channel broadcast a series of images illustrating the quality of the Moroccan infrastructure and the fluidity of the organization.
Faced with the outcry caused by this report - with voices calling for the withdrawal of the journalist’s accreditation - the correspondent was summoned internally. He then intervened on the air to apologize in turn, citing a simple "misunderstanding". A closed incident that does not tarnish Morocco’s reputation, whose logistical know-how is regularly praised by CAF.
