CAN 2025: 80 million dirhams for Moroccan players, and this is just the beginning

The body led by Fouzi Lekjaa has opened the checkbook. Following a controlled group stage - two wins, one draw and first place in the group - the FRMF announced on Wednesday the payment of a total envelope of 8 million dollars (about 80 million dirhams) to the staff and players. An amount justified by a "particularly convincing collective performance" during this first round played at home.

This amount is only a step. According to the progressive scale set by the Federation before the start of the tournament, the total bonus could soar if the team goes all the way. In case of final victory on January 18th, the envelope would exceed 15 million dollars (150 million dirhams). The FRMF specifies that this "financial ceiling" is commensurate with the sporting requirement of a CAN organized on national soil.

Invigorated by this financial support and their sporting momentum, the Atlas Lions are now preparing for their round of 16 match. They will face Tanzania this Sunday at the Prince Moulay Abdallah sports complex in Rabat. The opponent is known: Morocco had beaten them (2-0) in March 2025 during the World Cup qualifiers.
